What an offshore paraplanner does, from fact-find to implementation

Research and document preparation can become a queue of their own. An offshore paraplanner gives that queue one owner, working to your templates at each stage of the advice process:

  • Fact-find review: check the fact-find and file notes, and flag missing figures before modelling starts.
  • Research and modelling: gather product, fund and insurance information, and run cash-flow, retirement and super projections on approved assumptions.
  • Drafting: turn the adviser’s strategy notes into a review-ready Statement of Advice, Record of Advice or annual review pack.
  • Implementation: prepare checklists and application forms once advice is signed off, and keep the file audit-ready.

Be clear about the level you need. A technical paraplanner who builds strategy alongside the adviser is a different hire from one who formats documents and prepares review packs. Our page for financial planning practices shows how advice businesses usually split the work.

What stays with your advisers

  • Client strategy, recommendations and the advice itself
  • Review and sign-off of every SoA and RoA
  • Client meetings and anything requiring authorisation under your licensee

How we test paraplanners

Most paraplanner outsourcing works file by file, with whoever is available. We recruit one person for your practice. Each search typically starts with 1,000+ candidates from job advertising, direct headhunting and referrals through vetted local networks in the Philippines. Of that starting pool, about 40% pass CV and quality screening, 20% the video screen, 10% the practical assessment and 5% the structured interview. Around 2% reach finalist review, and you receive a shortlist of 3–4, usually within about 2 weeks.

The practical assessment could include drafting the strategy section of an SoA from a mock fact-find and adviser notes, with one figure that does not reconcile. When you interview, look for a candidate who catches that figure, links each recommendation back to the client’s stated goals, and writes in plain English an adviser could approve with light edits.

What an agency charges for the same paraplanner

With a managed agency, you pay a fee every month on top of your paraplanner’s salary for as long as they work for you. One published example: Staff Domain lists $1,099 per person per month, about $13,188 a year, plus $1,200 per hire (checked October 2026). Five years of that is about $67,140 in fees.

With Tarino you pay a one-time fee, and your paraplanner keeps their full salary because you pay them directly. Compare agency fees with a one-time fee, or estimate the markup on a paraplanner salary.

Before your paraplanner starts

Pick three recent SoAs you are happy with and use them as the standard. Agree turnaround times per document type, and which edits the adviser makes versus sends back. When you set the package, read how 13th month pay works in the Philippines. If client paperwork is slowing advice more than drafting is, consider a client services officer first. More than 95% of Tarino placements are still in the role at 6 months, so each SoA your paraplanner drafts should need fewer edits than the last. See how we screen candidates.

Paraplanner: common questions

How is paraplanner outsourcing different from hiring through Tarino?

Paraplanner outsourcing services usually take files one at a time and assign them to whoever is free. Through Tarino you hire one paraplanner directly. They work only on your practice's files, learn your templates and licensee requirements, and their drafts need fewer edits as they settle in. You also control their workload and priorities.

Does a paraplanner provide financial advice?

No. The role supports your advisers. Strategy, recommendations and client advice stay with your authorised advisers, who review and sign off every Statement of Advice and Record of Advice the paraplanner prepares. Write that boundary into the brief and the contract before the person starts.

Can they use our templates and planning software?

Yes. We recruit to your requirements, including Xplan, AdviserLogic or Midwinter, and test drafting in the practical assessment. Your onboarding should still cover your templates, licensee processes, file standards and approval steps, because every practice and licensee does these slightly differently.

Do I need a paraplanner or a client services officer?

Choose a paraplanner for research, modelling and advice document preparation. Choose a client services officer when the main need is appointments, provider follow-ups, implementation tracking and client administration. Many practices hire the client services officer first because that work is easier to hand over. We recruit for both.

Who hires the paraplanner?

You do. You hire and pay your paraplanner directly, so they receive their full salary. Tarino charges a one-time recruitment fee per hire, with no monthly fee or markup. Pricing is on our pricing page, and Tarino placements come with 6-month replacement cover for the same role.
