What a social media manager runs each month

Social media rewards consistency, and consistency takes daily effort. A social media manager owns the whole cycle for your agency or your clients:

  • Plan: build the monthly content calendar from the brand strategy and campaign dates.
  • Create: write captions and produce graphics, carousels and short-form videos in Canva and CapCut.
  • Approve and publish: send content for approval, make revisions and schedule posts in Meta Business Suite, Later or Hootsuite.
  • Engage and report: monitor comments and messages within guidelines, then report on reach, engagement and follower growth with recommendations.

If you only need approved posts scheduled and basic replies handled, a social media virtual assistant may be enough. Organic content and community management is a different job from paid social, and video-heavy accounts need a candidate with editing skills. The brief should reflect the accounts you will hand over. Our page for marketing agencies covers common team setups.

What stays with you onshore

  • Brand strategy, campaign concepts and client relationships
  • Final approval of content before it is published
  • Paid budgets, crisis responses and anything sensitive for the client

Outsource social media to one person on your accounts

Outsourced social media management usually means freelancers or white-label teams. We recruit one person who learns each client’s voice and stays with the accounts long enough to understand what each audience responds to. Each search typically starts with 1,000+ candidates from job advertising, direct headhunting and referrals through vetted local networks in the Philippines. Of that starting pool, about 40% pass CV and quality screening, 20% the video screen, 10% the practical assessment and 5% the structured interview. Around 2% reach finalist review, and you receive a shortlist of 3–4, usually within about 2 weeks.

The practical assessment could include a one-week content plan for a sample Australian brand, two finished posts, and replies to a handful of sample comments, including a complaint. When you interview, ask to see accounts they have run and what changed while they ran them. Look for captions that suit an Australian audience, design that follows brand guidelines, and replies that are helpful without overstepping.

What an agency charges for the same manager

With a managed agency, you pay a fee every month on top of your manager’s salary, for as long as they run your accounts. Staff Domain, for example, publishes $1,099 per person per month, about $13,188 a year, plus $1,200 per hire (checked October 2026). Over two years that is about $27,576 in fees.

With Tarino you pay a one-time fee, and your offshore social media manager keeps their full salary because you pay them directly. Compare agency fees with a one-time fee, or run the numbers for a social media role.

Handing over your first accounts

Start with two accounts and a written tone guide for each, including words to avoid and how fast to reply. Before you make an offer, read how 13th month pay works in the Philippines so the package is complete. If the work spreads into email, web updates and reporting, a marketing assistant may suit better. Audiences notice a change of voice, and more than 95% of Tarino placements are still in the role at 6 months. See how we find and test candidates.

Social media manager: common questions

Social media virtual assistant or social media manager: what is the difference?

A social media virtual assistant usually schedules posts and handles basic replies from content someone else creates. A social media manager plans the calendar, creates the content, manages the community and reports on results. Decide which you need from the accounts you will hand over. We recruit for both levels.

Can one person manage several client accounts?

Yes, if the volume is realistic. Define how many accounts, platforms and posts per week the role covers, along with the approval steps for each client. Video-heavy accounts take far longer than static posts, so count those separately when you scope the workload.

Can they create video content?

Short-form video editing in tools such as CapCut can be part of the brief. We review portfolio work, and the practical assessment could include producing a short video from supplied footage. If video is central to the role, say so in the brief so candidates are tested on it early.

Who hires the social media manager?

You do. You hire and pay them directly, so they receive their full salary. Tarino charges a one-time recruitment fee per hire, with no monthly markup. Pricing is on our pricing page, and Tarino placements come with 6-month replacement cover for the same role, under the conditions in our terms.
